Doing some cataloging on a Saturday and catching up with some stuff in my Google Reader while eating lunch. I came across this post from the Executive Director of one of our member libraries: The Technologically Competent Staff. I’d encourage you to take the time to visit her blog Guerrilla Librarian and read it.

After employees are provided with training opportunities, they must pass a technology competency test with a score of at least 80% (soon to be 85%) or face losing their jobs.

Tough? Sure. Necessary? Absolutely.

UPDATE since original posting: If you’re interested in learning more about the competency program at the Ephrata Public Library , join Penny Talbert and Stephanie Zimmerman, our System trainer, for a Techsoup Webinar-Tech Savvy Staff: Better Service for Library Users on October 30, 2:00-3:00 p.m. EST.
